I will be presenting the monthly program at the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group meeting in October, 11 a.m. the fourth Saturday (October 28). William Prystauk and I will be discussing using podcasts for writing, from research to learning craft, to marketing and promotion. The afternoon workshop, from 1:15 to 3 p.m., will offer coaching on being a good podcast guest. This one-on-one coaching also lends itself to preparation for media interviews.
Bill, in addition to being the author of The Kink Noir detective series and the new horror novel, The Hanging Girl, has an award-winning horror podcast with co-host Johnny Numb, The Last Knock. (Find it on Spotify here.)
Thus far I have recorded three interviews with podcast hosts, with Olivia Brooks of Chronicles and Coffee, (listen here)David Figeroa of Cerebral Palsy and Fitness Podcast, (watch here) and Andrew Gurza of Disability After Dark.
Registration opened at www.glvwg.org last week-ish, and so far seventeen members of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group have signed up. You do not have to be a member to attend, non-members may attend for $15. The morning program and the workshop will be at the Palmer branch of the Easton Area Public Library with additional access via Zoom.
I am just sitting down now to formalize my presentation so if you have questions you’d like to see this program address, please contact me.
October 28: Podcasts for Writers, Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group, Palmer Branch of the Easton Public Library, with Angel Ackerman and William D. Prystauk. Morning presentation at 11 a.m., afternoon workshop at 1:30 p.m. Non members must pay $15 for the workshop. The morning talk will feature an interactive discussion on how to find podcasts and how you can use them— for writing advice, for research and for promotion. The afternoon workshop will be coaching on how to be a good podcast guest and will include Bill’s experience as host of the top-ranked-by-Entertainment Weekly horror podcast, The Last Knock.
The format of these presentations offer a great introduction to podcasts. There is so much information and strategy available for free via podcasts and thinking about interviews and casual conversation for public consumption is a great way to master the key messages you want to convey to anyone about your writing. Practicing this skill set makes you more effective at networking, media relations and public speaking. To register, visit www.glvwg.org.
