At the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group meeting TOMORROW, after I perform my official duties as president, I will deliver a program and workshop on how podcasts can help your writing.

Yes.
You read that correctly– using podcasts to RESEARCH what you are writing about, IMPROVE your techniques and PROMOTE what you write.
William D. Prystauk* will be my willing accomplice as we discuss the opportunities to find podcasts that will do all of these things. With Spotify and some quiet moments while you wash dishes or drive the car, curating podcast lists— if you find the right ones— can help you bolster your storytelling, increase your timeliness and factualness, learn tips about the publishing industry, and fill in the gaps of your social media/marketing/Bookbub whatever-else-is-constantly-changing knowledge.
In the afternoon, Bill and I will discuss what it takes to put a podcast together and work one-on-one with authors on coaching that will make authors better interview subjects, from how to promote your work, talking in soundbites and staying on point. These skills will aid anyone who every interacts with the media or in public speaking.
Members of the public are welcome to attend. Non-members registering for the afternoon workshop must pay $15.

* William Prystauk, one of the authors for the Juicy Bits anthology, has hosted a podcast, The Last Knock, as Billy Crash with his good friend and horror-loving movie fan Jonny Numb. The Last Knock has reviewed horror films for more than ten years and has made the top five essential podcasts forI horror fans list from Entertainment Weekly.
I have organized a fairly comprehensive set of materials for this program and workshop which will be emailed to participants as either a PDF or a Google Slides show. This is an interactive presentation, where I will expose you to some of the materials out there and allow you to ask questions. Then, it the afternoon session, we will draft materials so you are prepared for ANY oral interview and we will also rehearse what we’ve written.
So this is a great opportunity to improve your public speaking and media relations skills– and if you haven’t explored podcasts, this might give you a place to start as a listener and a writer.
