This is the hill Kirk Cameron wishes to die on: Scholastic vs. Sky Tree

I don’t think there’s any one of us who does not know the Scholastic School Book Fair. I never realized until my adult life that Scholastic was a book publisher and I thought as a child that they merely loved book so much they gathered them up and brought them into schools.

But now that I’m a publisher— I’m wondering how they got this delicious monopoly.

I’m not the only one interested in the Holy Grail of children’s, middle grade and young adult reading. I received not one but several emails this week asking me to boycott Scholastic and to protect my conservative values. Now, I don’t think I need to explain to you that I am not what American Society considers “conservative.” I am a very financially pragmatic liberal, with socialist leanings when it comes to things like say… education, health care and human rights. So I have no idea how I ended up on this mailing list.

Here’s the krux:

SkyTree Book Fairs

Friend,

SkyTree Book Fair and I did a deep dive and discovered the cause of why sexually explicit and disgusting books get into our children’s schools, classrooms, and libraries.

Here’s what we’re up against.

These are books Scholastic promotes at book fairs in schools. Here are pages from “Welcome to St. Hell,” a 2022 Scholastic book glamorizing gender transitioning to middle schoolers. (We’ve censored these pages as the original content could violate social media policies against adult material):

St. Hell book

Scholastic holds a virtual monopoly on school book fairs. Like many of our cultural institutions in the last decade, Scholastic has fallen prey to the woke mob and radical LGBT political agenda.

Scholastic promotes this agenda over the well-being of our children.

Here is the solution:

SkyTree Book Fair offers schools a different option for book fairs. SkyTree Book Fairs is providing schools, parents, and children with an empowering alternative with literature rooted in truth and family values that matches the quality and ease of Scholastic while countering their harmful agenda.

Here’s how you can help.

I am asking for your urgent support to help SkyTree replace Scholastic in schools. Can you donate $35, $50, or even $100 today toward Sky Tree? We are kicking off with a goal to raise $100,000 this month.

Here’s what cracked me up: The email came from Kirk Cameron. As a member of Generation X, I remember Kirk as sleazy teen Mike Seaver from Growing Pains and I had no idea he had grown up to be “an evangelist” (according to Wikipedia). For a second, I got a little excited that cute little Kirk Cameron had sent me an email.

I wanted to share an article from the Washington Post confirming that it is indeed THAT Kirk Cameron, but it’s locked behind a paywall so I must share Fox News instead.

Now I have not seen the book in question, and I can not talk about its content or integrity. But I must say it hurts to see Kirk Cameron destroying one of the better things from my childhood.
