Hello, all my feathered friends. If you’re in the United States, we had an early Thanksgiving this year. And this weekend is perhaps the most American long weekend one could possibly design— a celebration of gluttony and genocide on yesterday, rampant commercialism and greed on today, and by Monday we’re recovering from those by shopping from home so that if we feel guilty enough by Tuesday, we can donate to charity, all as a kickoff to what’s supposed to be the Christmas season where adherents to this country’s predominant religion uses a fat man in a chimney to bribe children to behave or they won’t get new toys.
If you celebrate any of the gift-giving occasions that occur in December or if you like new books to soothe any sadness caused by long, cold nights, please, please, please consider ordering some Parisian Phoenix titles direct from us (email angel@parisianphoenix.com for more info, basic details: one book $20 shipped within US, $10 each additional), from your favorite independent bookseller (available through Ingram), from Bookshop.org or from Amazon or even the Barnes & Noble website.
And very briefly, here’s a reminder of what we offer:
- FICTION: The Fashion and Fiends Series—Manipulations (1), Courting Apparitions (2), Recovery (3) and the novelette, Not the Quiet French Kid, by Angel Ackerman. Good for fans of horror or midlife women’s fiction. If you’re seeking a fun rom-com, Trapped by Seneca Blue. If you like historical fiction with lots of nostalgia for the mid-twentieth century, try The Death of Big Butch and/or Coffee in the Morning by Larry Sceurman.
- NON FICTION: Speaking of mid-twentieth century, but this time in memoir, check out David’s Little Town about life in Galion, Ohio, by David Scott Campbell and edited by our own Julian Costa; or see the Holocaust through the experiences of a Jewish child with Stops Along the Way by Charles Ticho. If you want more contemporary representation of marginalized voices offering stories of different ethnic groups, sexualities and experiences of disability and mental health, consider Not an Able-Bodied White Man with Money. And if that’s too heavy to tackle for the holiday season, you can enjoy the pithy humor, pop culture references, writing craft tips and memoir of Ralph Greco Jr. in Writing Dirty Words. (Last but not least, if you need something hands-on and want to master an old skill or learn a new one, there’s Shuffling & Scribbling: A Journal for Learning Divination Through Tarot by Eva Parry. And if you want something more Judeo-Christian, there’s The Phulasso Devotional: Engineering the Warrior Priest for Dark Times by Thurston D. Gill Jr.)
- POETRY: The second edition of Darrell Parry’s Twists: Gathered Ephemera has gotten more popular as the year goes on and we also feature Nancy Scott’s chapbooks, not available anywhere else, Hearing the Sunrise and Leveling the Spin.
- CHILDREN’S: The duo behind Echo City Capers, Ralph Greco Jr. and Joe Swarctz, now have three special hardcovers available: Sometimes I Get… a Book about Feelings, The Echo City Capers Jr. Christmas Special and Bunnies, Cookies and a Robot!
- EROTICA: And if none of that appeals to you, and you prefer your gifts on the naughty side instead of nice, consider Juicy Bits: Erotic Stories of BDSM, Kink and Fetish.
