We’ve Named Our Litter

Hi, this is the art director, Gayle. You haven’t heard from me in a while because unlike Angel, I am not good with words.

However, I have some news. We’ve named our litter of cat logos.

Why?

Because the emails I would get would say “use the logo.” My reply would always be “which one?”

That is because here at Parisian Phoenix we have four imprints and four logos. I designed our primary logo in 2015: a pink mid-century cat.**

Then, after launching Parisian Phoenix in 2021, we refined our catalog into several imprints. One for general and fiction use, another for non-fiction, a third for children, and the final one for our spicy reading.

I name everything, so I suggested we name our litter of cats. On our recent road trip to Massachusetts, we did just that.

Our primary brand is “Paige.” That’s her on the left. Works in French and in English. And really what else would you call a book cat? As much as I would have liked her to be gender neutral in my eyes she is a girl. She is bright pink…magenta actually…and has long lashes, which indicates she’s a little high maintenance. And she is. As primary logo she is used on all fiction, correspondence, blogs, social media, advertising, promo items, etc. She works hard for her kibble.

When Paige dons a pair of cat’s eye glasses she is the imprint for our non-fiction. For example, you can see her on Julian Costa’s career histories and biographies and our marginalized voices anthology.

The children’s imprint, also referred to as Parisian Phoenix Kittens is an orangish color. His face is a little squarer than the primary logo, to look more kitten-like. We’ve named him “Patrick.” Patrick is named after a marmalade cat Angel had twenty years ago when her daughter was born. The toddler carried that cat around like it was a baby doll or sack of potatoes. The child loved that cat to the moon and back, primarily because he would tolerate anything. You can find Patrick on our Echo City Capers children’s books and titles like Larry Sceurman’s Bookworm’s Magical Journey.

Our final imprint is Parisian Phoenix Kink. This is for books with more adult themes and our spicy titles. We named this cat “Punky,” and they might be the most gender neutral of them all. They are ready for a night of bad a$$ partying. Look at the smirk on their face. You can find them on our BDSM erotica anthology Juicy Bits and or the writing memoir, Writing Dirty Words.

Well, there you have it. All the logos now have names. What do you think?

**If you don’t know the Parisian Phoenix origin story and why we had a logo six years before we had a company, you’ll have to ask Angel to write that out.
