A belated Parisian Phoenix birthday

In a few days, it will be my dad’s birthday. Shortly before Christmas, it will be the fourth anniversary of his death.

Two weeks ago, it was also the fourth anniversary of Parisian Phoenix Publishing.

I missed it— because I was knee-deep in annual medical appointments and production schedules. I completely missed it.

I launched Parisian Phoenix two months before my father’s unexpected death, so he never had a chance to see me build this business. And as sometimes happens, the family fell apart after his passing so none of them really know about the community we have built here. My dad was a blue-collar guy and probably wouldn’t have understood it, and I don’t really know if he ever thought about my writing/skill as an asset.

In my early career, I worked as a print journalist, primarily in weeklies, and my other professional jobs relied on the same skills… but I don’t know if he ever connected the two— my talent and honed abilities and my livelihood.

Maybe I didn’t either. Imposter Syndrome can do that.
