I found myself embarking on an annual adventure that speaks to end-of-year traditions: spreadsheets! I designed an inventory spreadsheet over the weekend to track what I have in stock without going to my supplies and looking. By the end of 2026, according to the production schedule we have now, we will carry more than 60 titles!
Ten of those are 2026 releases, six are books by people who have or have contributed to Parisian Phoenix titles that have books outside of our publishing company that we sell, and two are Nancy Scott’s poetry chapbooks from many years ago that I am the only one who distributes them.
I started thinking about other 2026 spreadsheets: an income spreadsheet, one for expenses, one for each author, one for each client, and a project management spreadsheet.
And I am not a fan of creating spreadsheets. Twenty-five years ago I earned certification as a database programmer so the limitations of spreadsheets frustrate me. Thanks to the business, I’ve overcome my discomfort with spreadsheets but I still dread January and the need for fresh spreadsheets.
