Nancy Scott and I stumbled across Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine thanks to a post on the Behind Our Eyes Writers Partyline. The online publication features stories from the medical world written by caregivers, patients and medical professionals. Nancy had an article published three years ago about her experience moving into an independent living facility, “My Castle.” Since then she has some of her short nonfiction published in various categories of their “More Voices” section.
In a recent newsletter, they announced a “More Voices” category of “Falls.” As someone living with cerebral palsy, this is a topic I know something about. I eagerly opened up the website to see the inaugural pieces and the sidebar featured the stories about falls, a new piece by Nancy, and a piece of flash non-fiction by Marissa Koons, who serves on the board of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group with me.
I recommended Pulse to Marissa at a recent meeting, as I have also mentioned it to Laurel Wenson, who recently submitted her poetry manuscript to Parisian Phoenix— poetry for caregivers.
