On Tuesday afternoon, I had the delightful opportunity to speak with Olivia Brooks, the host of the podcast “Chronicles and Coffee” and proprietor of a website of the same name.
She’s young, still in college, and she started her podcast this year. She’s probably #1 on my people to watch list (in part because she’s two years-ish older than my daughter and therefore taps into my maternal instincts but also because she has built so much even in youth. If she maintains her momentum, while she still has the energy and the optimism to do so, then due to simple physics and a touch of math, the equation should equal exciting success).
She will be releasing the podcast of our conversation May 24, barring anything unforeseen. In the meantime, I encourage you to sign up for her newsletter and peruse her web site.
Olivia has a genuine enthusiasm for books, and has her own writing and reading cove at her local Barnes & Noble. She’s working on her own novel, interning as an editorial intern at a comic book publisher, and most importantly– she wants to learn about the book publishing industry as she hopes to embark on a masters related to the field.
In our chat, she seemed a tad concerned and perhaps almost embarrassed that she sounds like a cliché, hoping to make it to New York City to work in editorial. But, in reality, she’s bright, committed, and if she does end up in Manhattan, it will be to soak in the sites, absorb whatever knowledge of the industry she needs, and hopefully be “doing her own thing” in no time.
She’s embracing her youth and inexperience and diving in. I encourage you, again, to check out Olivia and hopefully listen to our podcast together.
