In preparation for the Easton Book Festival, I have been working with Thurston D. Gill, Jr., and updating his web pages as he moves toward the future of Phulasso.
Thurston will be delivering an opening blessing for the event and its attendees at Easton Public Market, 325 Northampton Street, at at 11:20 a.m. His remarks will launch the Small Press Expo and its associated readings throughout the day.
To see what we’re building, head over to ParisianPhoenix.com/Thurston and ParisianPhoenix.com/Phulasso.

Or just keep reading:
“Phulasso” (pronounced foo-las’-so) is a multi-disciplinary system of personal and third-party protection that operates according to an “all powers” approach to emergency preparedness, readiness, response and recovery to prevent and manage potential threats and harm by quickly, intelligently, and simultaneously respond to harmful events with little to no support, or an over dependence on outside resources.
“All powers” refers to our spiritual, physical, and mental powers to create a dynamic protective system to guard against potential threats to our families and communities such as:
- Acts of Physical Violence
- Fire and Medical Emergencies
- Other Man-Made and Natural Disasters
Phulasso is a Greek term borrowed from the Bible which means to watch, to carry out the function as a military guard or sentinel (Acts 23:35, 28:16), to keep watch, to have one’s eye upon lest one escape, to guard a person that he might remain safe (from violence, from another person or thing, from being snatched away, from being lost).
In the New Testament, it is used as “guarding truth” (1Ti 5:21, 6:20, 2Ti 1:14)
In Luke 2:8, Phulasso is also used as a verb to describe the shepherds “keeping watch.”
Phulasso integrates the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to ensure the safety, security, integrity, and purpose of those who practice its concepts and principles.
There is a profound emphasis on a “spiritual operations” platform, which means, that individuals who attempt to approach this material strictly from a natural, or carnal standpoint, will be disappointed.
It may not satisfy your desire for “tactical action and adventure.”
IT IS MORE THAN A WAY OF LIFE:
IT’S A WAY OF RELATIONSHIP, TO, AND THROUGH CHRIST, AND TO THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED.
Phulasso promotes and helps to support a lifestyle that that deepens our relationship with the resurrected Christ, through whom we are dramatically transformed in our understanding, and our application, of the art and science of protecting ourselves and others.
Whether you are a parent, spouse, caretaker, healthcare provider, first responder, law enforcement, firefighter, soldier, risk manager, or security professional, as a member of the body of Christ, we must grasp not only the magnitude of our calling but also a profoundly unique insight into the corresponding capabilities that we have in Christ through the ministry of protecting others, particularly before, during and after critical events.
First and foremost, we must acknowledge that our ability to protect ourselves and others is based solely on our dependence on the provisions provided by God Himself, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Without this understanding and the corresponding commitment to live it out, our efforts in protection are significantly marginalized, in other words, we’re on our own!
Unless the Lord builds a house, the builders’ work is useless. Unless the Lord protects a city, sentries do no good. 2 It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest.
Living Bible, Psalms 127:1-2
Practicing Phulasso is the mind of Christ in operation, it is a discipline in the routine of our own self-care. and as a third-party-oriented protection system that is actively ready to immediately intercede to defend ourselves oron behalf of others when potential threats are present or anticipated.
