Every once in a while, Gayle asked me to talked to her journalism students at Northampton Community College. Gayle is a graphic design professor, but the the basic graphic designs courses at the college include designers, artists and writers as multiple programs require the course as part of the curriculum.

The philosophy is that now that we’re in a digital age working for employers who expect employees to know how to do many different functions, whether a student aspires to be a designer, a journalist or even a social media marketer, that student needs to know the way around basic publication design and pagination.
Gayle found herself with a class that had finished most of their projects and she wanted to fill the time with something different. So, she asked me to present my podcasts for writers information and my how-to-be-a-good-interview-subject workshop, which included some tips on writing press releases, organizing one’s key points to convey during an interview and also what it feels like to be interviewed and recorded.
And once we did ALL that, the students still had the energy to ask me questions about the publishing business AND about my career as a print journalist.
Interestingly enough, some other local reporters were speaking to students at one of my Alma Maters (Moravian University) the same day. But more about Moravian in another entry.
