Thurston Gill, author of The Phulasso Devotional, will be at Barnes & Noble today in the Southmont Shopping Center offering FREE emergency preparedness seminars. Programming starts at 11 a.m.

Thurston shares his inspirations, reflections and spirituality as well as tips for personal safety on his Substack newsletter. Here’s an excerpt from the recent edition:

“A couple of years ago, in the snow-covered “open” field behind my house, I got disoriented and could not figure out what direction was home!

In the distance, all the backs of the homes in my development appeared to look alike.

The snow eliminated the landmarks that I would typically rely on for orientation. Initially, everything looked the same.

What saved me was the recognition of a group of trees that were distinctively lined behind a neighbor’s house which gave me the reference point I needed to head in the right direction.

While walking in the field with my dog, Buxley, I thought I was walking in a straight line and didn’t need to be as aware of my direction and distance as I usually am when I’m not in my familiar surroundings.

Because of Lateral Drift this was not the case.”
