- Last week—We sent Mark Luebbers’ and Benjamin Goluboff’s poetry chapbook, Group Portrait, to the printer for its initial proof. From the back of the book: “The poems in this little volume explore Hermann Landshoff ‘s photograph of modernist artists, most of them refugees from Hitler’s Europe, gathered in the home of Peggy Guggenheim, patron and collector of modern art, in 1942. This group portrait is part of a series of photographs that Landshoff, himself a refugee, made of exiled artists and intellectuals in New York City during the war. The photograph may have been intended both as a statement of anti-fascist solidarity and as propaganda for Guggenheim’s newly opened Art of This Century gallery.”The book officially launches July 14.
