Seven Years of Recipes

In my late 20s (Gosh that was a long time ago), my two closest friends lived far away— one in Virginia and one in North Carolina. One frequently asked for recipes. The other needed help keeping her grocery shopping within a certain budget.

So, I started a blog— on Blogger, remember those days? Not quite as ancient as Geocities but still. For seven years, I chronicled every grocery shopping trip and meal. Looking back, it seems nuts. And at one point, Gayle Hendricks had them all printed into books…

But refer to those blog entries and recipes all the time when I can’t remember how I made something or can’t find the master source.

I thought it would be fun to share that old blog with you, and for extra amusement, I copied Google’s AI summary:

Angel Food: Cooking Cheap Without Sacrifice is a personal food blog created by author and graphic designer Angel Ackerman that focuses on budget-friendly home cooking. The platform features casual, diary-style posts highlighting resourceful vegetarian and vegan recipes from the early 2010s until late 2015. Read the full archives at angelfoodcooking.blogspot.com.

Note that Google called me an author and graphic designer. Oh no, I am the world’s worst graphic designer. I know enough to get myself into trouble and not nearly enough to get out of it. (Right, Gayle?)

Some of my household staple recipes:

A few of these are potluck and holiday requests when I am invited places… My mother-in-law has tried to replicate my broccoli with cheese… and some my daughter still begs for…
