If you are a writer and/or author, you have a duty to stay current. Just like any profession, the writer must know what is happening in the industry.
Common advice points toward Amazon for information on trends, genres and even as a source to show what covers sell.
And, of course, writers should read all the hot new titles. But who has the discretionary budget for that?
Consider NetGalley. Now, NetGalley normally provides a way for authors to send our preview copies of their books in order to procure reviews before the book comes out. It, and services like BookBub and Book Funnel, are great ways to generate buzz about your book.
But it’s also a great way to receive free ebooks– in exchange for a review of course. So you can find out what the publishers are putting out and when. Angel signed up as a reviewer in May of 2022. She shared some of her adventures here. And here.

But it’s also a way to scan upcoming covers in various genres. Sure, you would still need to compare that info to who’s on the bestseller lists on Amazon with what, but it’s a good way to see the competition.
